Strange Interlude No. 3 by Lassen, James

Description

This piece is a lot fun. I programmed it on a recital in order to show my brothers (who played in a funk band) that I could play more than Mozart. This piece has jazz scales, “guitar” riffs, and enough high E’s to impress your bassoon friends. But it also has some really lovely, tuneful moments as well. The first part is slower and more contemplative. Part 2 contains most of the non-traditional bassoon writing. Find a very good accompanist! It turns out that jazz scales are hard for them, too.
